Blitz Gas Can History
Blitz U.S.A. has been the industry leader in gas cans for over 20 years and we owe our success to our people and family atmosphere. The following is a brief outline of where they have been and they we are going.
1955: After World War II, the only US Company manufacturing gas cans (jerry cans) was moved to Miami, OK. In its heyday it was one of six companies providing gas cans (jerry cans) for the US government during the war.
1966: The Company was the only remaining gas can (jerry can) manufacturer in operation in the US. It was sold and became known as U.S. Metal Container Company.
1967: With a single product and a single customer (government contracts), U.S. Metal Containers made its first venture in the consumer products arena by changing its jerry can from traditional drab-green to bright red and started selling to retailers all  across the US. Today the red jerry can is an American icon.
1985: Foreseeing the opportunities in plastics, U.S. Metal Containers acquired Platner Industries and also moved their operation to Miami, OK in 1986. Some of the more popular plastic items first produced here were the plaid Skotch coolers and hair combs.
1987: The first line of plastic gas cans was developed. They quickly took the market by storm and  nearly sent the metal gas can into obsolescence. Meanwhile, many more automotive products were being developed and introduced into the marketplace.
1992: The Pet Supply line was introduced with two products: a galvanized pan and a feeding and watering unit. Selling pet products, along with the reality that more and more of our products were made from plastic, the name “US Metal Container” no longer fit and we became “Blitz USA”.
The name “Blitz” was chosen from the German word “blitzkrieg” from World War II that meant “lightning war.”  The Blitzkrieg proved most efficient in moving supplies, namely gas, to the front lines. When America developed equally efficient means of transporting fuel, the cans were known as jerry, or “blitz” cans. Blitz U.S.A. is proud of this rich cultural history.
2006: The Pet Division of Blitz USA developed a distinct style and identity and became Bergan, LLC. Blitz U.S.A. took this opportunity to refocus on what we do best --making quality gas cans and other automotive products.
Today: Blitz U.S.A., Inc. has grown into a multi-product company providing "Great Stuff for Garage to Garden" and is a major supplier to the automotive and seasonal markets.
